Are you looking for your "dream" job? Let's go!
Act, act, act…
I keep repeating this to myself.
I have just come back from my holidays – which involved a trip abroad and some rest – and I’m struggling to get back into the swing of things. I’ve got plenty of ideas and loads to do but I’m lacking the motivation? I’m a Libra 😊, I tend to procrastinate... I also know that when I do get going there’s no
stopping me, but for now I’m stuck in the starting blocks!
Recently Mr Z (Zdravko Cvijetic) published an article on Linkedin on the subject of procrastination, entitled “Where to start when you’ve procrastinated on your goals for too long”. I liked this article because it provided some suggestions.
September represents the start of the year in many areas and that’s the way it is for professional matters … So let’s get to work!
Let’s see how in a few points.
1. Why did I wait so long to get started on my objective?
a. The summer was approaching and I was tired.
b. I needed a breath of fresh air to recharge my batteries.
c. I needed to think of my family, my mum, mother-in-law or children…
d. I had a number of things to take care of before going on holiday.
e. …
There can be an infinite number of reasons for procrastinating but it might be a good idea to think about these and write them down to understand them more.
Moreover, this little exercise will stop you being too harsh on yourself. It’s so easy to put yourself down but it won’t do you any good, especially when it comes to renewing you focus on a project you
really believe in!
2. Is it still what you want?
- Do you want to lose weight?
- Do you want to change jobs?
- Do you want to grow the business you started?
- What do you want?
It might be worth going back to the project you believe in, in order to reassess and confirm it. It’s not a problem if you want to change things entirely or partially.
Once you’ve made up your mind, write things down. It could just be a few notes but the exercise will prove very useful!
Concentrate on 1 project, not 5 or 10.
3. It’s good to have an overview of your project, but the next step involves transforming your strategy into a plan of action
You need to plan the project activities on a step by step basis.
It might be daunting to think you have to lose 10 Kg, but if you stick to the diet your dietician gave you, at least you know what to do to shed the weight healthily and in a reasonable timeframe!
It might be a good idea to get some help for your principal project, just like speaking to a dietician when you need to lose a lot of weight.
You can also do things well on your own, but It might take longer and you will probably make some mistakes along the way. That’s notto say it’s going to be quick and painless even if you get some help but you’ll probably find the whole process more enjoyable and it will certainly be more efficient!
That’s going to be the case if you’re thinking about changingjobs. A business coach could make a difference, especially when it comes to defining your objective clearly and putting together a plan of action.
4. The trick is...
to take one step at a time. It doesn’t matter how much you do and how well you do it, the main thing is for everything to be consistent with the result you want to achieve!
Therefore…
the trick is to do something every day – no matter howsmall and trivial – that keeps you moving in the right direction.
I started in September by picking up Mr Z’s articles and writing some comments for my blog.
This is a step in the development of my business as a Business Coach in the Italian labour market within the GoodGoing! network.
What about you?
