Being successful in your job: it takes a long time to get there and a lot of energy to maintain it
Success is a big word and even trying to define it can be quite complicated. Entire books could be written on the subject and talkshows could be dedicated to it. It is not my aim to look at its definition here or to propose a specific interpretation of it. Everyone is free to think about their own “definition” of success.
7 ways to stay at the TOP!
How can you maintain your success once you have reached it? I kept an interesting article on this subject which contains some suggestions are Worth mentioning and commenting on. The article was entitled “7 ways successful people stay at the top ”.
Let’s look at the main steps. They apply to work but can also be used for life or a sport (I suggest golf! 😊).
1. They have a routine
Successful people take up daily routines in order to form structure and plan out every single minute of their day. Without a routine, a lot of time may fly by trying to think of what to do next. And time wasted is success delayed.
– Alex Jasin
All of us have to have the same “routine”, wake up at the same time, perform our daily tasks in the same sequence, dedicate time to our work, reading, her family and sport in the same way.
It’s important not to invent each day from scratch, because there must be a “routine” to everyday tasks. This saves time and effort because it prevents time and effort being used unnecessarily.
2. They set goals
If you read autobiographies of successful people, you’ll notice a pattern of goal-setting. They start by setting long term goals, and then break down each of these goals into short term daily goals. By doing so, they ensure that every single second of their day is catered for and there is a task to complete.
– Alex Jasin
Having goals is the real secret. Or rather one goal not many goals!
It’s important to ask yourself where you want to go and then break the answer down into various levels: what you want to achieve today, in a week’s time… in a lifetime.
3. They capitalize on emotional intelligence
Successful people understand that being emotionally stable leads to a clear mind and hence more informed decision making. They’re efficient at communication, time management, stress tolerance, decision-making and anger management, among others. All of which are great factors for success.
– Alex Jasin
Have you ever wondered where you’ve got to?
At GoodgGoing! we have adopted an instrument that measures emotional intelligence, TTI Success Insight EQ.
4. They don’t believe failure is final
While you may view failure as a setback and spend days on end sad and depressed, successful people shake off the dust and move on. They work to learn from each failure and continue to become a better version of themselves. It is through this mindset that most successful people keep piling on successes.
– Alex Jasin
It’s not just Americans who teach people how to learn from success. Every single champion is able to learn from their lack of success.
Have you ever tried to play golf?
Have you ever tried to lose your job?
5. They constantly educate themselves
Those who can’t read books, listen to audio books. The point is to stay educated about what’s happening, how things works and keeping your mind engaged. This is how successful people manage to stay one step ahead. They ask the right questions, accumulate knowledge and use it when making life changing decisions and structuring their life.
– Alex Jasin
I read. Others think. Others play. Others listen. Others discuss things.
Everyone needs to have their own way of learning, opening up and engaging with the world.
6. They are sensitive of who they spend time with
You are the average of the 5 people you spend your time with.” Simple as this may be, the most successful people are avid followers of this phrase, and make time to hang around people they trust to inspire, challenge and motivate them.
A bit of snobbery is okay! What good news! I sometimes get really frustrated sitting at a dinner table with dull people who say the first thing that comes into the mind. I’m not saying people always have to talk about important things, but they should at least be authentic, personal, and not just engage in mindless chitchat...
7. They have multiple income streams
Adding a new income stream can as simple as starting an online business and learning how to grow their audience, but no matter what they do, successful people make sure to have several backup strategies.
This may not apply to everyone but thinking about how to differentiate your risk is not a bad idea. Some rental income, an annuity, savings, e-commerce, or even a few objects sold at a flea market instead of throwing them away, just to top up your salary…
